HARMFUL EFFECT OF SALT TO YOUR HEALTH

Salt is a white crystalline solid or powder, consisting mainly of sodium chloride and used for seasoning and food preservation. Once salt is absorbed into the human blood stream, sodium (Na+) and chlorine(Cl-) ions are dissociated as they impact the body separately. The chlorine ion is however harmless as it is combine with other substances and forms part of hydrochloric acid in the stomach when it combines with hydrogen. It is widely understood that people retain salt in their tissues. this in turn, refers that excess water is also retain here, which may result in onset of many diseases due mainly to an increasingly difficult metabolic exchange. However, salt as a preservative is not poisonous rather the amount of usage in our meals makes it so, especially a daily average of 30 to 50 grams per person per meal, an overdose and which constitutes a toxic level. Nevertheless, organs and tissue functions in adult can be seriously affected as continued and excessive intake of salt may result in the following; 1. Can lead to a serious heart, kidney and liver disease 2. May induce edemas during pregnancy 3. Can result in blood hemorrhoids 4. May lead to the inflammation of the mucous membranes: the stomach (gastritis), the gum (gingivitis) and the intestine(enteritis) 5. Result in higher incidence of migraines. Abuse of salt which adverse effect may occur with a daily consumption of 10 grams, and the content of salt in meal is closely related to diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis and migraine. However, low sodium food such as fruit, rice, etc. can work perfectly on heart disease and hypertension.
